SIM-TEST Ballistic Test Media: Chapter 1

How many videos of ballistic testing with a form of ballistic gel do you see on YouTube? There aren't many, in comparison to all the ammo testing videos that have been posted in all formats. I am willing to make an effort to change that scenario. Introduction, overview, and ammo test of SIM-TEST Ballistic Test Media, a format very similar to ballistic gel. After posting over three dozen ammo tests videos using wetpack (May 2009 - December 2010), I felt the need to make a change. More info on this product manufactured and distributed by Corbin, located in Oregon, USA. If interested, you must order direct. http://www.corbins.com/sim-test.htm Wetpack is a very inexpensive media for ammo testing, but it was time-consuming using my format. In the past, I would stuff one gallon jugs with wet newspaper, then cover the first jug with four layers of denim. The process of making five jugs for each test required 2 1/2 hours of spare time. It was not possible to view an accurate "wound channel" with this format, and wetpack is not generally viewed as a reliable testing medium by some people....even though folks have been using it for decades. This format requires more of a financial investment, but the process is more scientific and should yield good representative results. Compared to calibrated ballistic gel, SIM-TEST: - Does not require refrigeration. Stable for storage at room temperature, although a cooler environment is preferred. - Can be used without mixing; maintains consistency. - Is reusuable. Ballistic gel is one and done. Average lifespan of SIM-TEST is one year, with five years documented in some instances. - Can be diluted, as it dissolves to a liquid around 160 degrees. Can be re-cast in various mold sizes to meet specific testing needs. - Is cost-efficient. Multiple uses for a single block. As I note on all my ammo testing videos, these tests are only a single representation under controlled circumstances. How your ammo performs in your handgun during a lawful self-defense situation is another matter....there are too many uncontrollable and unpredictable variables. There could be some valid data points in my videos, however, please do not make your ammo selection based solely on this video, seek out all resources. There is a wealth of information online; gun forums, ammo company websites, LEO ammo test reports, other YouTube videos, etc.. Dr. Google is your friend. Beginning February 2011, I will be testing .22 LR, .38 Special, .380 ACP, 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. In the future, I might add blocks for .223/.5.56 and 12 gauge testing. Thank you for your interest in this format. If you wish to be notified of future ammo testing videos on this channel, please click the SUBSCRIBE button!

AK-47 vs AR-15 Part 1, by Nutnfancy

PART 1 of 5: Nutnfancy tackling the often controversial issue of the AK-47 versus AR-15 rifle systems. The bottom line is, a quality example of either gun can serve your law enforcement, military, and "civilian sheepdog" requirements admirably. However many factors and considerations should come into play when selecting your choice. When properly maintained and lubricated, the AR-15 is very reliable contrary to many internet, forum, and magazine myths. However it does not rise to the absolute, carefree ruggedness and reliability of the AK design. Whether packed in mud, neglected for cleaning, or just plain thrashed upon, the AK shrugs it all off and continues to shuck rounds with pleasing and life-saving regularity. It is better than the AR-15 system in that regard. It also features a lightning quick and easy fieldstrip. However the AK design has many flaws which include: poorer ergonomics (like its munchkin length of pull), shorter sight radius and inferior sights, heavier magazines and ammunition, difficulty in mounting optics (less variety in application too), slower operational controls, and more recoil. But many accept these shortcomings to gain the increase in stopping power of the larger .30 caliber round. As shown in the video, this 7.62x39mm round pretty much dies after 300 yards but within its range, it hits hard and defeats obstacles much better than the smaller 5.56x45mm offering. However the AR-15 can easily be had in either a 6.5 SPC or Grendel chambering which nullifies this advantage (and the AK can be had in the 5.45x39mm load which has similar ballistics to the 5.56). Both systems enjoy adequate firepower, multitudes of accessory options, good service record (AK has better reliability record however), and similar value (subject to change). I respect the reliability, simplicity, ruggedness, and shooting fun of the AK design. For a "mud gun," it still reigns supreme. However in terms of ergonomics, its amazing versatility, the lighter weight of mags and ammo, superior accuracy, and the longer range capabilities (especially with 77 gr loads), the AR-15 is a more capable weapons system.

GLOCK 19 to the SIXTH POWER

Ok, so I like the 9mm Glock 19. This extremely popular handgun suits my needs for home defense, concealed carry, or just basic target shooting. I think it's a good idea to have backup guns, so at the time of this video production, my Glock 19 collection had grown to six. Half-a-dozen ways to have some Glock fun. This montage contains previously published footage on my channel, but quite a bit of new content as well. The Glock 19....if it's the sidearm of choice for law enforcement and military worldwide, that's all the endorsement I need. UPDATE: As of December 2009, I'm down to ONLY 4 of the Glock 19.
